Irrigating Flowers with Love On
June 25th,1999,the graduating ceremony for Class 3,Primary 6 lasted
6 hours,3 times longer than
planned.Teachers,parents and pupils
bid farewell to each other with tears in their eyes. All the pupils
are quite clear about how much
care they have received from their
class-adviser. Mrs. Fang,who is a special-grade teacher and the
National Model class-
adviser.Every night,she stays late
together with her pupils till they all sleep soundly.In order to
make students enjoy the best
development,she collects all the
information about her pupils,builds files for each and adopts different
measures in accord with each
personality.For those reserved,timid
ones,she creats as many opportunities as possible to encourage them
to display themselves in
different ways.For these with meek
knowledge background,she offers to give make-up lessons to them
separately.Whenever they
make progress,she is always praising
them.Whenever there are any contradictions in her students` familities,she
wound have
soothing talks with the pupils
and their parents,relieving their paycological burden. IIn the school,we
have more such devoted
teachers as Ms. Fang.It is the
common view among the teachers that all the children are all worth
teaching.A parent,who is satisfied
with none of the 6 schools where
he had sent his son,a mischievous,spoiled and trouble-making boy,finally
sent him to Bilingual
School.After studying in Bilingual
School for about half a year on probbation,he has been turned into
a boy with good manners and is
willing to study hard,scores increasing
from 80 to 90 marks.His parents are so glad that they tell whomever
they meet with,"it is
worthwhile to send the child to
Bilingual School!"Speaking---the key to English Regular English
classes,oral English classes and
curricular activities in Enliah
are assigned to the pupils from the very beginning of primary school.
Seven foreign teachers are engaged and the method of teaching in
native tongue adopted.Students have English lessons in mini-
classws with only around 20 in
a class.In an English classroom for primary school pupills in Grade
One and two,seated in a circle on
the carpet,directed by a foreign
English teacher and a Chinese English teacher,the childen are playing
ball games in high spirits
while pratising oral English.During
the time for curricular activities in English,senior middle school
students are rehearsing an
English play.
Computer lessons for junior middle
school students are given in English,too,where Chinese or Chinese
characters are hardly
used.Bilingual teaching has been
appiled to such non-English subjects as Biology and Geography,etc.Besides,the
school has sent
students on many occasions to
Australia,England and U.S.A. on
international Summer and Winter camp tours.Living and learning in
an environment where English
is the native tongue,the students`s
abilities to communicate in English was improved rapidly.In the
school,lessons are given amd
questions answered in English;a
bilingual environment is seen everywhere.The maxims and aphorisms
on the walls of the
corridors,posters and saying in
the classrooms,dining halls,bedrooms,bathhouses,programs broadcast
by the school broadcasting
station,eventhe speeches given
at the weekly flag-raising cercmony are bilingual.
Exposed to such a bilingual environment all day long,the students
learn both Chinese and English rapidly and effecfively.On New
Year Eve,Associate professor Zhang
Quan came to the school with 40 students of English Department at
Southeast
University.Theswith bilingual students
in an English party.Mr.Zhang
